Modular pretreatment/biorefinery

In this module, equipment facilitates all the steps necessary to process raw materials and waste streams into materials suitable for fiber processing or for the conversion of those ingredients that can be fermented (such as sugars). Typical processes are harvest and broth (pre)treatment and killing off / inactivation of production organisms. Parts to be installed in the pretreatment section (based on ca 60 kg/hour dry feedstocks):

  • bench scale unit (to do fundamental research on all thinkable pretreatments to prepare (hemi)cellulose for an easy and high yield (enzymatic) hydrolysis and fermentation)
  • sorting / stammer / grind / filter equipment
  • thermal treatment / buffer treatment (acid / alkaline), steam explosion
  • separation (filters, centrifuges)
  • (bio)catalistic conversion (chemical, enzyme)
  • fermentation preparation / fiber winning / hydrolysis
