Downstream processing / Separation technology

This is where products are extracted and refined. Various process steps can be combined to produce all kinds of products, such as base materials for the construction sector, chemicals for biofuels or base materials for the chemicals and pharmaceuticals industry. Typical processes are:

  • Cell disruption: mechanical, chemical enzymatic methods
  • Solid Liquid Separation: (micro)filtration, centrifugation
  • Concentration: ultrafiltration, nanofiltration, evaporation (vacuum), extraction, chromatography
  • Purification: chromatography, crystallization, precipitation, extraction, adsorption, distillation
  • Formulation/ drying: spray drying, fluid bed drying, vacuum drying
