U.S.A.

In the U.S.A. BE-Basic has selected the Energy Biosciences Institute (EBI) at Berkeley and the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) as its partners for their excellence in research and opportunities for BE-Basic partners. EBI and ORNL are leading in investments in research programs for bioenergy and biorenewables.
Energy Biosciences Institute
The Energy Biosciences Institute (EBI) is a partnership between the University of California, Berkeley (UCB), Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and the energy company BP, which will support the Institute with a 10-year, $500-million grant. The mission of EBI is to explore the application of advanced knowledge of biological processes, materials and mechanisms to the energy sector. EBI was founded in 2007 and to date over 300 researchers work within the institute.
Oak Ridge National Laboratory
Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) is a multiprogram science and technology laboratory managed for the U.S. Department of Energy by UT-Batelle, LLC. Scientists and engineers at ORNL conduct basic and applied research and development to create scientific knowledge and technological solutions that strengthen the nation's leadership in key areas of science; increase the availability of clean, abundant energy; restore and protect the environment; and contribute to national security.
